Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, Symen Langeraap of Dunnville on Monday, September 14, 2020, in his 84th year. He has gone to his heavenly home where he is reunited with his loving wife Alice (nee Hoekstra). Born on September 3, 1937 in the town of Hommerts, Friesland, The Netherlands to Diedert and Sjoertje (nee deJong) Langeraap. Dad immigrated to Canada in the 1950s with his family and eventually settled in Dunnville, Ontario. On October 3, 1958, Dad married the love of his life Alice Hoekstra. They were blessed with 5 children. Dad was a dairy farmer until he became a Surge Dairy Equipment dealer and retired as a maintenance mechanic with Bick’s Pickles. Even after his retirement, he drove cars for Dave’s Auto until March 2020.

Dear father of Rick and Diana, Betty and Don Tilstra, Sylvia and Brian Stark, John and Joanne and Debra and Cliff Lynk. Proud grandfather of Eric and Meg Langeraap (Morgan and Logan), Ian and Amberly and Tyler and Tara (Maxwell); Justin Tilstra, Keith and Caryn (Emerson and Gerrit) Tilstra and Dan and Arianne (Mikaella, Natalie and Izaak) Tilstra; Billy and Jessica Stark, Meagan and Jordan (Grace and Jack) Husiman and Alex Langeraap; Anthony and Letesha (Landon, Aubrey and Lylah) Keen and Nathan and Katelyn Keen and Breanne Keen. Although this service is closed to the public in person, it will be livestreamed on the Ballard Minor Funeral Home Facebook page and available to view afterward on the funeral home website. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date, when restrictions are eased. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family. Our deepest sympathy to Symen's family. Our fond memories include his years of being Harold's hockey coach and visiting after church in the fellowship hall. The twinkle in his eyes always shone brightly when Symen greeted us. May you feel God's nearness in this time of sorrow. Love Harold & Nelly Schilstra

Our deepest condolences to the whole Langeraap family. Uncle Symen was always easy to talk to any time I bumped into him. I have many fond memories of hanging out with my cousin John & siblings as a boy. Uncle Symen & Aunt Alice always made me feel at home and I always looked forward to visiting. Also great memories of family camping at Larry's Hide-away with the Langeraap's & many other cousins.
