Obituary for Robert (Bob) Downey

A Live Well Lived

After a tremendous fight, we say goodbye to our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who died at the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital on Saturday, December 4, 2021, in his 83rd year. Bob Downey was the devoted husband of Penny for 48 years. Loving father of Mark, Karen (Mike) Laverty and Ann (Fernando) Cacoilo. The best grandpa of Adam, Alison (Ron) and Erin Laverty, Andrew, Aidan and Dylan Cacoilo. Brother of the late May (the late Harry) Green, the late Judy (the late Steve) Fezko, the late Bernice (the late Marvin) Pyle, the late Bill (the late Gina) Downey, the late Roy Downey, the late Joe (Beryl) Downey, Don (the late Carmen) Downey, Larry (Barbara) Downey, Linda (the late Alan) Pattison, and brother-in-law of Janet (the late Ian) MacGowan and Ben (the late Rosemary) Collver. He was a cherished uncle of many. Bob is predeceased by his parents Agnes and Harry Downey.

Bob was an avid woodworker who loved to tinker in his shop. He would lend his hand to any project from renovating to building craft projects for his family. Bob always gave his time readily to anyone who needed it. Bob was a charter member of the Lowbanks Volunteer Fire Department. He was a devoted family man whose best day was being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Never one to shy away from a great dinner, he loved to just go for a drive in search of a good restaurant! He always looked forward to his "Tuesday Coffee Club" with his buddies. Bob fought a long, hard battle but never once complained.

He faced cancer with grace, dignity and a gratefulness of time. He earned a special place in the hearts of many of his caregivers.

Special thanks to the nurses of HWMH 3rd Floor for their kindness and compassion, to Dr. Ezzat, Nurse Natalie and the CBI nurses. An extra-special thanks to Bob's brother Don whose kindness, support and love has been a God-send; we could not have gotten through this without you.

In keeping with Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. (to be informed automatically when the location and time is set, please sign up for notifications on the funeral home website). Funeral arrangements entrusted to BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME, Dunnville (905-774-7277). Friends are invited to send condolences and sign the Book of Memories at www.ballardminorfh.ca
