Obituary for Phyllis Marie Marr (Coverdale)

It is with hearts full of love that the family of Phyllis Marie Marr (nee Coverdale) announces her passing on Friday, February 10, 2023 at the age of 96 from Grandview Lodge. Back in the loving arms of her husband and best friend Oliver Marr (2020). Loving mother of Roy (Linda) Marr, Pat (Rick) Inglis and Robert (Sandi) Marr. Cherished grandmother of Jodi (Brandon) Anderson, Erin (Ben) Vedder, Nicole (Will) Dykstra, Rodney (Stephanie) Inglis, Jessica (Brian) Nuxoll, Matthew (Julienne) Marr, and 13 great grandchildren. Phyllis will be fondly remembered by her sister Grace Huffman of Welland, sisters-in-law Carol, Sylvia and Jean Coverdale & many nieces and nephews. Phyllis and her husband Red loved family and would regularly visit someone in the family. They enjoyed many special events such as weddings, birthdays, picnics or Christmas reunions which gave them such delight catching up on family news. They also valued visits from their church family. Phyllis loved to knit and quilt, even teaching some of her granddaughters. She knitted many baby outfits, baby blankets, sweaters and afghans. She quilted at family quilting bees and loved to make doll quilts for her granddaughters’ baby dolls. She also treasured hearing about her grandsons’ sports activities and schooling. She always kept herself busy looking after her home. You could find her in the kitchen cooking and baking and when summertime arrived, she loved to can. In peach season it was nothing for her to can four or five bushels as Red loved his peaches. During times of illness in her later years she managed to continue her knitting, quilting, canning and looking after her home. She was a strong woman right up to the end! Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Karl and Zella Coverdale (nee Reece) and her brothers and sisters. A special thank you to the staff at Grandview Lodge for their care and compassion for mom during her time in their care. Friends are invited to visit family on Thursday, February 16 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME, 315 Broad Street East, Dunnville. The funeral service will be held at Ballard Minor Funeral Home on Friday, February 17 at 11 am. Interment to follow the service at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Wainfleet. In memory of Phyllis, donations to Grandview Lodge Residents’ Council, Alzheimer Society or Wainfleet Be In Christ Church would be appreciated by the family. Friends are invited to send condolences and sign the Book of Memories at www.ballardminorfh.ca.
