To Jim’s family and friends-my husband and I extend our deepest sympathies and most heartfelt condolences to all of you for the loss of such a wonderful person.
To Jim-Not only my lawyer, but someone I considered to be a good friend. Each visit with you was looked forward to for the great conversations and many laughs. From the time you knew that I would not mind your feet up on your desk while you ate your lunch because you were running so far behind that day, to discussing how I decided to ask you to be my lawyer, we always found time to talk. I will always remember the saying you had...the same one as what is on the little wooden sign that I gave to you that says “It is what it is”. I can never hear those words without thinking of you. Rest In Peace Jim. You will be greatly missed by all.

My sincere condolences to Jim’s family and close friends. I hope that your warm memories will buoy you up in difficult times.
I remember Jim from law school many years ago, and reading the tributes has brought back memories of his smile and his warm nature.
Rest in peace dear Jim.

So many memories of Jim.... He loved life. His laugh, his commanding voice, his humour. Man could he talk! I loved listening to his stories and hearing his point of view on many subjects; politics, design, gardening, history. So many wonderful memories at the Bolt Hole in Kincardine (how many times could he run into town to pick up an item in a day?). He found peace there. When I think of him now, I imagine him walking the beach or tending his garden, reading a book, listening to music, cooking a meal, enjoying friends.
I always laughed at how quickly he would say his goodbyes. A quick kiss, turn and go.....one hand up in the air as he walked away. And that is how quickly he has left us now. It is too soon. I miss you Jim

“They told me, Heraclitus, they told me you were dead;
They brought me bitter news to hear and bitter tears to shed;
I wept as I remembered how often you and I
Had tired the sun with talking, and sent him down the sky.”

My dearest Jim:

So many times this week I have reached out to the phone to call you, as I have for the last 28 1/2 years but, of course, that is no longer possible. I am therefore posting these words to your Tribute Wall, to tell you how very much you have meant to me and the many ways in which you have enriched my life: I wish that I had had the opportunity to say them to you in person.

We have spent our professional lives together: You have been my peer, my colleague, my opponent, my mentor, my sounding-board, my supporter and encourager, my memory-keeper, my confidant, and, above all, my very dear friend.

I have always admired you for your patience, your enthusiasm, your professionalism, your dedication, your generosity, and your unfailing good humour.

I will treasure the memory of the hundreds of meals that we had together; the operas, plays and movies that we have seen; the home shows we attended; Canada Blooms; the weekends at the cottage; "Pimms season”; the thousands of end-of-day telephone calls; and the laughter that we shared.

Thank you for being with me during the darkest times of my life.

Thank you for leaving us with so many “Jim stories” for us all to remember. I only wish that there could have been many, many more. You have left us far too soon.

Thank you for inviting me to share this part of your journey.

Rest in peace, my friend, until we meet again.
