I first met Arie September 1967 at the University of Guelph .Arie was my lab partner for chemistry and physics -we were both studying General Science at Wellington College -U of G.We both had the same ambition - OVC as did everyone else on campus - or it seemed to be. Thanks to Arie's calm ,thoughtful and mature approach to our tasks -he was able us both through many challanging labs. Sometime in our second year he Canadianized his name to Harry .What a tremendous feeling finding Harry and I in our 1st year at OVC -surviving the challenge of our 2 years of undergrad .Harry was a true gentleman -always friendly - big smile and a true supportive classmate in the classroom and outside activities- which on occasion included a few beers .I tried often to push his buttons -the most outrageous response I recieved was "that's enough". He was our anchor man on our OVC boat race team (speed beer drinking held annually by the Univ at the Rebel Room -4 men 1 then1 2 for the anchor -8 beers -13.5 sec -a record that I believe still stands .Although we went separate directions Harry -Lg An in Dunnville - myself Sm An Toronto- we always got together at conferences - class reunions and it was always pleasure to see the smile- warm friendship- firm handshake - and that nothing had changed .There are not many men like Harry -his principled - warm - calm approach emulated a strength - a sense of purpose and a commitment to do what is right. He will be missed -but never forgotten-Russ Tate O.V.C 73
